Vitalloy is an amazing metal. It is designed specifically with food-processing-machinery in mind. The alloy is patented and thusly available only through specific sources making it a bit rare. From the perspective of food-processing Vitalloy performs as well as any other metal used for linear bearings but is better in a couple of very important ways.
Vitalloy outshines its competition in three ways:
Food forming machines work in harsh environments where machines are constantly subject to washdown, often with corrosive detergents. These requirements make traditional ball and roller bearings impractical and shuttle bearings (a kind of linear bearing) a perfect choice. Since food forming equipment requires frequent washdown, lubrication becomes very expensive and wear on lubricated parts is much more extensive than in less intense environments. The lubrication free nature of Vitalloy shuttle bearings makes it the ideal material for linear action food forming machines.
Vitalloy is more expensive than traditional bronze but it is a small price to pay for the safety gained. When one considers that Vitalloy is five times more durable than bronze in friction testing, it means you will have to replace your bearings less. Less downtime means more production; a critical metric for any high volume food processing plant.
Tomahawk Manufacturing, Inc. constantly researches new materials and innovates our products. It is the advantage of having a talented and dedicated Engineering staff. When Vitalloy came onto the scene, we realized that it was the perfect material for our Shuttle Bearings. We are certain this is one of the many reasons our customers make the Tomahawk choice again and again.
We can make Vitalloy parts for anything, but Tomahawk Manufacturing, Inc. really excels at Shuttle Bearings. Check below to get parts for your food forming machine.
